A local resident has written to us to alert us that detailed plans for a significant development of flats have been submitted to council planners.
Whilst many will be pleased that the new development will open up a new section of the Water of Leith walkway to the public, the person who wrote to us points out that the developers appear to have given up on working out an engineering solution to the problem of getting a non-stepped cycle and walking path all the way along the river, so that it joins up with the existing path downstream.
The question is, does this matter? It would seem that the key desire line for cyclists is maintained through the development, and there is new public access to most of the river bank.
You can see more detailed plans, and comment on the proposals on the council website here.
Whilst we consider our response to these plans, we’d be interested to hear thoughts from other local residents. Do you think that this proposed development will improve the area? Or are there aspects of the plans that should be changed?
