This is the first blog post of many, aiming to give you lots of ideas for getting out in the great outdoors of Edinburgh every weekend.
The weather this weekend is forecast to be overcast and chilly (but not freezing) with some patchy showers, so it’s good weather to keep moving. Light winds forecast means good cycling weather.
Now the light levels are improving, it’s easier to get out for a decent bike ride on the weekend. Rug up wearing lots of zippered layers. Take some tasty food with you, or plan your route around a lunch spot.
North Berwick is an ambitious goal for many, but the great thing about cycling along the coast is that the weather is milder and there are lots of places to stop. Start by aiming for Portobello, and as your fitness improves over the warmer months, go further and further. Musselburgh, Port Seton, Aberlady and Gullane all make nice spots to stop and admire the coastal view.
The race season is gearing up and this Sunday sees the Kilomathon ten mile race (there are shorter options) taking place. Starting from Leith, it follows the cycle paths, finishing at Murrayfield.
I’m not sure if there’s entry on the day; check the website at www.kilomathon.com for more information.
Also this weekend is the Deerstalker, a fancy dress cross country night run at Traquair House, Peeblesshire. Entries are closed but you can find more information on the race (and other similar races) at http://notoriousnightruns.com/deerstalker.html
