Emergency services were somewhat puzzled today after discovering that someone had managed to dump a white transit van in Newhaven Harbour overnight, by driving it off Pier Place, through two sets of railings and into the water.
Various rumours involving dead bodies, dead puppies, drugs, weapons and alchohol were circulating amongst the bemused looking locals who watched the emergency services investigate during the day. However, to date, Police have found no bodies, and have not confirmed any of the other rumours.
You can watch a news report about the incident on STV Edinburgh here, with full video footage of the van being lifted back out of the harbour here. Why the van ended up there, and the identity of the driver remains a mystery.
Meanwhile not far away, in an incident related to the first only in it’s mindless stupidity and geographic proximity, the burnt out car pictured below can be found dumped underneath the first bridge you come to on the Hawthornvale path. We’ve reported this one to the authorities using FixMyStreet.com
No doubt, the police would be delighted to hear from anyone with information on how either of these vehicles came to be abandoned in such dangerous circumstances.
