In unprecedented bit of possibly uncoordinated coincidence, Leithers are to be blessed with an embarrassment of artistic and festival riches in the coming weeks. And this post can’t possibly do it all justice…
The Leith Festival, Leith Late and the Leith Jazz Festival are all taking place between the 7th of June and the 19th of June.
Leith Festival 2013
Leith Festival is perhaps more diverse than ever bringing together 50 events in 39 venues over the week. It will kick off with the street launch in the Kirkgate at 6pm on the 7th. Among the acts performing for the first time will be the Gaelic School Children’s Choir.
The pageant and Gala Day takes place the following Saturday. One other particularly notable event that is taking place as part of the festival is the Leith Theatre Fundraiser in the Thomas Mortonhall on the 15th of June.
More information on all the other events taking place during the week available on the festival website.
Leith Late 2013
Leith Late takes place on the evening of the 13th of June. For those unfamiliar with the idea, Leith Late is an annual multi-arts event that takes place over multiple venues in the space of one evening, immediately followed by an afterparty with live music showcase.
It’s only the third year the event has run – but they’ve already bagged an award. On just that one evening, there will be 17 venues roughly around Leith Walk opening their doors and putting on special performances for the night.

Leith Jazz & Blues Festival 2013
The Leith Jazz and Blues Festival is in its second year and runs over the weekend starting on June the 14th. Focussed around the Shore area, the festival will conclude with a finale concert in the Queen Charlotte Rooms on Sunday the 16th.

And one other festival…
And it would be remiss not to add that the Edinburgh Festival of Cycling runs between the 15th and 23rd of June. Why? Because on the 23rd of June Greener Leith is organising a family bike ride from Victoria Park to Portobello as part of it. Stick the date in the diary and join us for a wee ice cream on the beach.
