A few weeks ago, we ran a short readers survey to try to gauge what you thought of our blog and whether we’re making any difference. Whilst it’s fairly easy to get stats about our blog, and our social media use it’s perhaps harder to gauge what those stats mean in the real world.
Before we start on your opinions, there are some free tools which can help a bit. For example, www.klout.com, has this to say about our Twitter account:
Of course, Klout is the kind of service that has nice things to say about everyone who uses it, so you should go and try it if you’re a Twitter user and you need some positive reassurance!
Turning to our blog, we know the stats, but we wanted to know more. So we wanted to find out whether we’d influenced people to take action as a result of our website. Here are the results:
We’re delighted to see that, according to this survey at least, that this website is proving reasonably useful to people. It would appear that our efforts are helpingt to inspire Leithers to take practical action to improve Leith, reduce their environmental footprint AND it would seem we’re helping folk to participate in the civic life of the neighbourhood – whether that’s by contacting local politicans, or taking part in consultations or events.
Of course the people who took part in the survey were self-selecting and so they might be a bit more active than our average reader (we get 3000 unique visitors a month and rising!). Nevertheless, we think these results show that our website can help to make more happen in our neighbourhood than simply getting the odd knackered phonebox moved.
Lastly we were also interested to get feedback from you about what you thought we should do more of. We got 18 responses:
We also asked what you thought of the overall effectiveness of the site as a news source. Here’s what you said:
We’d like to thank everyone who took part in our survey, and as we constantly tweak the site, we’ll try to bear in mind your feedback. If you didn’t take part in the survey, but have anything to add, feel free to add your thoughts in the comments below.
