Give or take a few days, it was pretty much this time two years ago that someone mysteriously decided to drive their van into Newhaven Harbour.
Whilst we’ve no idea about the whodunnit, it seems slightly astonishing that nobody has bothered repairing the damaged railings yet.
It’s not as if people don’t notice. In May L.Fisher reported the problem on FixMystreet.com saying:
“Two sections of metal railings at Newhaven harbour were damaged and removed due to a van plunging into the harbour.
“They have been unsatisfactorily filled with temporary metal fencing. With the number of new businesses and cafes in the area and the tourist buses going by this is unacceptable and requires railing repair by the council as soon as possible. This can be seen on google streetview.”
However, as this photo shows. It still needs fixed. Perhaps it’s a council thing, perhaps the delay is the responsibility of Forth Ports. Either way, it’s one of those things that can safely be put in the file: “It would never happen in the New Town.”
