It’s been quite some time since the removal of some of the benches from Pilrig Park caused some consternation among regular users of the park.
Therefore, we’re pleased to be able to share news of some welcome investment in the park, that includes a batch of new benches.
The map above shows the locations where 8 new bins and 7 new benches will be going.
The new bins follow an anti-dog fouling campaign in the park over the summer – coordinated through the Clean Leith Forum – that some regular park users say has helped to cut the number of errant turds blighting the park.
So, there is now some hope that the new bins will encourage regular dog owners to keep on bagging it and binning it after the campaign posters have gone.
The Pilrig Residents Association, Friends of Pilrig Park, Greener Leith and the Leith Neighbourhood Partnership have all been working together behind the scenes to find the cash and agree where they new stuff should go.
In addition, as the photo above shows Leith Community Crops and Pots volunteers – that’s Kenny in the photo – have been working to clear an overgrown corner of Pilrig Park, now dubbed the Cambridge Community Gardens.
The group is planning to do some more work on the garden on Saturday 31st August between 10am and 2pm. If you want to get involved, you can get in touch with the organisers here.
