If you’ve been past the Leith Links Children’s Orchard in recent weeks, you probably noticed these picnic benches.
The benches, which were made by inmates in Saughton prison, are available for anyone to use, and came with a gift of free refurbished tools for our volunteers to use in the orchard.
Great to see ToolsShed tools going to @greenerleith for the children's orchard on Leith Links Thanks HMP Edinburgh

The tools were provided as part of the Tool Shed project, organised by The Conservation Foundation, and will mainly be used by Greener Leith volunteers in the Orchard.
We’re also grateful to the council for providing locks and chains, that will hopefully deter anyone from taking any of the four picnic tables home.
Thanks to our willing volunteers and the Edible Gardening project, all the trees have been pruned and mulched and the orchard is looking all set for spring.
Later this year we’re planning to add a notice board and labels on each of the trees. Each tree’s label will have a link and QR code on in it so that people can use their phones to find out more about that particular tree, and the fruit that grows on it.
We’re also planning to replace some of the trees that have failed with new ones too.
Throughout the year we organise volunteer work days in the orchard. If you’d like to be notified of the next event, get in touch.
