Europe’s largest Taoist Tai Chi Centre centre has opened in a former supermarket building on Marionville Road, near to Lochend Park.
A colourful opening celebration saw hundreds of people travel from all over the country to join in, and included a chinese dragon, demonstrations of the 108 move Tai Chi set – and lots of eating.
Leith Walk councillor Deidre Brock was there in her capacity as Deputy Provost, and she shared this photo on Twitter

The centre has been established in by the International Taoist Tai Chi Society.
According to a statement released by the society it was founded in 1970 by Master Moy Lin-shin. It is a global volunteer organisation and all Society instructors are highly trained and dedicated volunteers, and all branches are run by volunteers.
You can find details of the classes organised by the Edinburgh branch of the society here.
Other Tai Chi classes are available in the neighbourhood as well. Gail Sibbald has added the courses she runs at the St James Church Hall near Leith Links to our events calendar.
