These two almost perfectly matched images taken in the Lochend Colonies were taken approximately 124 years apart. Not much seems to have changed. The iron railings have gone, more people have extended into the roof spaces, and there are of course cars. Lots of cars.
We’re assuming that the old postcard image is now out of copyright, as we’ve seen it lots of places on the web. It’s been dated to around the 1890’s.
If we’re wrong in this assumption, and you own the copyright, we hope you’ll continue to let us publish the photo. If you follow the Spirit of Leithers Facebook page you may have seen it there recently.
We’re also grateful to Ali Ferguson who took the excellent modern “today” shot for giving us permission to use his photo. It makes an excellent comparison.
