A ‘blitz’ on anti-social parking on Leith Walk has finally started.
Council officials have confirmed that a total of thirty seven parking tickets were issued on the first day of a widely promoted initiative to stamp out illegal parking on the street.
Double parking and pavement parking had become an endemic problem on the street, after enforcement signs and notices were removed by tram workers and not replaced.
As the photo above illustrates, double parking causes a particular hazard to cyclists on the street, as it blocks the advisory cycle lane and forces people into the traffic lane.
Officials hope that the current period if heightened enforcement activity, dubbed an ‘enforcement blitz’ by officials at a recent meeting, will change the parking culture on the street and help to make it safer for everyone.
We should add, that it is not known whether any of the vehicles that were ticketed were driven by La Favorita employees and the header photo on this story was taken on the weekend prior to enforcement starting.
