Leith Links Statue Update

In April last year, Greener Leith shared news from the Leith Rules Golf Society about their plans to erect a statue of John Rattray on Leith Links. We’ve now received an image of what the proposed statue, and the landscaping associated with it are likely to look like. What do you think?

If you click on the image you should be able to view a larger version. At the moment we don’t have any information on when the scuplture might be installed.

I wonder what consultation took place with local users of the Links about these plans for alterations?

Presumably the Council granted planning permission as local planning authority? and if that was the case presumably the Council as landowner also gave permission for it to be built? Both seperate permissions being needed.

I cant say I really oppose the idea and on the same hand I cant really say I support the idea.

    Hi Michael,

I don't think they'll apply for planning permission until they've raised all the money. They've circulated these images and visited around most of the council officials and the community council. This blog post is an informal part of the consultation process I suppose.

Everyone will have a formal chance to comment on the plans when, or if, they apply for planning permission to put it in place.

Needless to say – we'll do our best to keep folk informed.

At last something of interest to be erected in Leith. and it looks very tasteful. I look forward to seeing this when it or should I say if it happens as with most things when it has to go through planning we never see or hear of it again.
