The Central Scotland Green Network (CSGN) have announced a small grant scheme aimed at supporting outdoor play.
All Nurseries, Primary Schools and Secondary schools in Leith are eligible to apply for a one-off grant of up to £350. The funding can be used to:
- Develop school grounds for learning and natural play
- Develop the surrounding area of woods and greenspace for learning and natural play
- Provide equipment for learning and natural play outdoors(learning equipment and other tools, clothing)
- Contribute to training or other resources for outdoor learning and natural play
The CSGN define ‘natural play’ as follows:
“Natural play” is child-led outdoor play that takes place either in natural spaces or in playgrounds where natural elements have been introduced to enrich play. These elements can include structural changes such as dips and hollows, large bespoke sand play areas, logs, boulders, willow dens, trees and shrubs as well as ‘loose natural materials’ such as straw bales, sticks, cones, bark, water, mud (and storage facilities for these).
Now that building work on the cycle path through the Leith Links Children’s Orchard is virtually finished we’d be delighted to hear from any local educational organisations interested in making more use of the orchard, and lending our support to an application for this purpose.
