Free fruit tree pruning course at Leith Links Children’s Orchard

All the volunteers together

Greener Leith is laying on a free training course for people interested in fruit tree pruning, as part of a spring work-day at the Leith Links Children’s Orchard.

Volunteers who lend a hand getting the orchard ready for 2013 will also be treated to a free picnic lunch from Out of the Blue.

As well as pruning the trees, there are a whole load of other jobs that need to be done on the site including mulching and staking the trees out, litter picking and tidying up the perimeter hedge.

Training will be provided by experts from The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh’s Edible Gardens project, whilst BTCV and the City of Edinburgh Council are also kindly lending us the tools and equipment we need on the day.

The event will run from 11am-2pm on the 9th of March, but even if you can only spare an hour, then please do come to help out. The more volunteers we have, the bigger the area we’ll be able to spring clean.

However please note that places on the pruning course are limited to 20 people. We’ve reserved half of these places for people who live in the EH5-EH7 postcodes.

People under 16 must bring an adult with them too – more information in this event listing.
