Work to convert the currently unoccupied Elliott House into 138 student flats is due to be complete by the Summer of 2015, a construction firm has announced.
The building, which has lain unoccupied since November 2012, is to undergo a £6.6million refurbishment by ISG, on behalf of developer McLaren.
According to an announcement on the ISG website: “The contractor will reconfigure and refurbish the six-storey building to form 134 student rooms, as well as replacing and upgrading the property’s external cladding. An additional four studio apartments will also be constructed in a new build block to the rear of the property, with the project scheduled for completion in summer 2015.”
When it’s finished, it should look something like the image below.
This development of student flats joins several others under construction, or seeking planning consent in the area. There are 260 student flats under construction on the former Shrubhill House site and 276 more being built by the same firm on Murano Place.
A proposal for 226 student flats at Haddington Place on Leith Walk is in the planning system, whilst a full planning application is also expected for an as-yet-unknown number of student flats on Bothwell Street.
