At the time, whoever it was who made the report said: “I see a community project involving local primary/secondary schools in the design of a new artwork – get kids involved and it might not get so heavily vandalised. I have lived here for 25 years and remember the original mural celebrating the history of leith industry and leith station- any chance we can fix this please.”
Well, we’re pleased to report that subsequently local council officers took an interest in the idea and and after a bit of a behind the scenes search for funding a new mural will be revealed on this site later on in the year.
The artwork itself will be put together by the good folk at Leith Late.
The Leith Neighbourhood Partnership, Port of Leith Housing Association, and Scotmid have all put funding in which, the folk behind Leith Late say, “will result in the installation of a new, contemporary mural for Leith by a collective of local fine art and street artists.”
Examples of other Leith Late artist’s work abound up and down Leith Walk. Here’s a link to the fifth and latest Shutter Art coordinated through the project.
Kudos to everyone involved for helping to sort this eyesore out.
