New local social enterprise, Leith Media Projects, aims to help the people from Leith and beyond tell their stories online. Over the last few weeks, they’ve released a five part audio recording of Phil Attridge interviewing Brian Maughan. Brian is the Centre Manager at the Pilmeny Youth Club and has worked there for many years.
It’s a great interview and gives an interesting insight into the history and development of the Pilmeny Centre – and the challenges it now faces in the light of public sector cutbacks. In the interview, Brian makes a good case that investment in community based youth work can help to cut crime in the local area. If you’ve got time – make yourself a cup of tea – and have a listen.
Do you think that cutting local youth work projects will lead to an increase in local crime and more work for the police?
Two of the groups that use the Pilmeny Youth Centre also have their own blogs. You can find the Pilmeny Youth blog at: http://pilmenyyouth.blogspot.com/ and you can find the Redpath Albion blog here: http://redpathalbionafc.blogspot.com/
